Poems, poetry – I don’t really like the words – to me they make the subject sound dull before we have
even got going !
Whereas the (ancient) Japanese Haiku, for instance, sounds somehow modern, edgy and interesting.
Its just a thought about the intrinsic power of words to create an impression. This is odd, because, at its
best, a poem can capture in just a few words what might easily take pages in a novel. Intimation,
alliteration, allusion – can be an elegant shorthand for clumsy prose.
