Susan Gittins was a looker
and no mistake
and she knew it,
but she was a nice person as well,
unlike the other lookers.
It was a gift or a tease to us lads
that she would bend from the hip
in her miniskirt,
elbows on the teacher’s desk,
under the pretence of asking
face to face
some question about quadratic equations
& when a cheer went up,
as it always did,
she’d look around as if surprised
by the commotion
with a bemused expression
as if to say –
well, what’s going on ?
A sight to behold
in white cotton knickers –
the eighth wonder of the world
in class 4C.
