49. day two

I sat there waiting on a bench
in the hazy morning sunshine
beneath the tamarind tree,
smoking a cigarette
by the old whitewashed fortress
not knowing if you would come
or not.
then, when you appeared,
I was ecstatic,
though I didn’t let you see it
and so away we drifted
through the traffic
arm in arm
to walk & talk
& talk & walk
and drink coffee
in a pavement cafe
as newborn maybe lovers do.
