188. event horizon

watching the clouds wash the earth
we tip our hats
to the memories of friends and lovers past.
this first day diverts us to when we traversed
those garlanded doorways
– each of us –
and watched the second hand sweep by
the moments
indescribable & more precious still
than rubies.
you ride, I walk beside you,
my new contentment, my mescaline
so brightly our words materialise
and hang in the air as Chinese lanterns
whilst we walk on chalky downs
on fiery coals
so bold
we thought maybe our star had come.

and now the girl & me
reach the end of our landscape
joke and laugh and turn around
as the rainclouds bathe
our hands & faces
& the air crackles with
the lightning seeds
and all manner of possibilities.
